Coral Coast 7's good platform to develop the sport

December 21, 2015 5:18 pm

Former Fiji Rugby Union Coaching Director, Frank Boivert believes the Fiji Baileys Coral Coast 7s will be the best platform to develop the sport from the grassroots level.

The tournament will feature a secondary schools’ Under 19 category competition for the first time ever.

Boivert says most of the young players that are training now have formed the typical bad habits of the sevens rugby and it is a good time to guide them in the right direction.

“They tend to forget about what they have to do when the ball is in hand. And of course it’s the difference or so they tend to play injury during defence instead of playing as a team collectively.”

He adds they are teaching the players the basics and there has been a lot of improvements shown in the last few weeks of training.

Meanwhile, the 2016 Coral Coast 7s will be held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on the 14th to 16th of January.
