Fiji’s Chef De Mission to the Rio Olympics, Cathy Wong has confirmed that Javelin thrower Leslie Copeland has booked his place from athletics to the Rio Olympics next month.

The Pacific Games, gold medalist, had spent three months at the Gold Coast previously from January until April which resulted in an overall improvement of 7 meters and a new personal best of 81,76m only a few centimeters less than the Olympic Qualifier of 83.00m.

Wong says they are now counting on Copeland.

“We gave confirmation that Leslie will be representing Fiji to the Olympic Games. Banuve Tabakaucoro has subsequently withdrawn. He chose to qualify on merit and failing that, decision has been made, it’s a decision that didn’t come easy with him, that was his personal journey.”

Meanwhile, the Fiji Men’s and Women’s 7s team together with the Fiji Football team will be announced tomorrow at Grand Pacific Hotel and you can watch it live on FBC TV.
