April 4, 2015 12:55 am

Athletics Fiji is offering cash incentives to national squad members that win gold at the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.

Athletes that win gold in the regional meet will earn $350 and $150 will be paid to the coach.

Athletics Fiji Development Officer, Joe Rodan Junior says this initiative is an added motivation tool to drive the athletes to achieve success.

“It’s a team work between the athlete and coach. It’s not just one-way focus on the athlete as we believe the coaches play an important role in that build-up and strive to glory as well.”

Athletics Fiji has also announced that it will pay the $1,600 levy for each athlete in the 36-member squad.

Fiji is targeting a minimum of 8 gold medals in athletics at the Pacific Games in July.
