Cakau still in contention for Fiji 7s

Veteran Setefano Cakau should join the Vodafone Fiji sevens rugby camp next week to fight for a spot in the team for the IRB World Series.

Cakau, who has been away in Sri Lanka, was the only player missing from the first training camp, which ended today.

Fiji sevens coach, Ben Ryan, says Cakau still wants to don the national jumper and will be given a chance to prove his worth.

“I think initially for Sete he comes in and he still feels he still got some rugby in him. Its huge competition and I am sure he recognizes that. Not being around for the last couple of weeks of testing and training has put him on the back foot I guess. But if he comes back and gets back into training than he is like everyone we pick on form and see how he gets on.”

Fiji’s first outing in the IRB World Series will be at the Gold Coast tournament, which will be played on October 11-12 in Australia.
