A bright future lies ahead for Fiji Table Tennis following the one week visit by professional champ Kim Gilbert.

Fiji Table Tennis coach, Anthony Ho says her tour to Fiji proved successful and she’s sure to make another trip soon.

“Next year Kim is planning to bring in some very, very interesting celebrities. One of them is an very famous model and national Korean table-tennis player, Su Yun Yi. She graces the international walk where she appears as the face of Versace and Adidas and is a very good player.”

The Fiji junior teams are currently preparing for a two-week championship in New Caledonia where Ho says three tournaments will be played.

“In the Pacific Cup we are good. We stand a good chance in the age level groups – the U15 and U18s at the Oceania level. Of course, NZ and Australia are usually stronger than us but Fiji is pretty much on par with New Caledonia and Tahiti at that age grade level.”

The national U15s and U18s are preparing for the Oceania Cadet qualifications in the U15s, where Fiji has two players likely to make the Oceania team.

There’s the Oceania Junior Championships where the winner and runners-up will qualify for the world junior championships and the Pacific Cup.
