2018 Commonwealth Games boxers Winston Hill and Jone Koroilagilagi alongside former Junior Development Boxer Nathan Singh have gone to train with six times World Championship trainer Johnny Lewis.

A member of the Australian hall of fame, Lewis attended the Fiji Games last month assessing local boxers who were vying for selection to the 2019 Pacific Games.

Upon his arrival back in Australia, he sent an invitation for the three athletes to join a one-month intensive training program.

Fiji Amateur Boxing Association National Coach, Nic Fuata is confident that these young boxers will use this training platform as leverage before going to the Pacific Games.

“With top-notch training facilities, high intensive training programs, and competition, the exposure and experience will assist our boxers in settling well at the games in Samoa.”

Fiji Amateur Boxing Association President, Manasa Baravilala is grateful to Johnny Lewis for giving these select FABA boxers an opportunity to train under his tutelage.

“Not just because of the much-needed experience and exposure it will bring our boxers, but also because the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association is in no position to pay for Mr. Lewis’ time and services which he is kindly providing pro-bono. This in itself is a testament to Lewis’ love and passion for Fiji and its’ amateur boxers.”

The program will help these Fijian athletes undergo intensive physical and mental training to build their confidence and exposure in a foreign environment to help with their preparations for the Pacific Games in Samoa.
