The new Boxing Commission of Fiji Chairman Dr Subhash Appana

The new Boxing Commission of Fiji Chairman Dr Subhash Appana will be making radical changes after being appointed last month.

Dr Appana takes over from former chairman Bulutani Mataitawakilai.

He claims the commission had a lot of problems which the new BCF executives will try to solve.

“At some stage, the BCF became non-functional, in the sense that the BCF Act 2008 clearly states what is to be done and what is expected. But I’m told by the previous president that there was only two of them running the show at one stage. Now you cannot have that because there is a clear stipulation in the law stating four members and a chairman.”

The new chairman says that rules are clear on what is to be done and expected from the commission.

Appana adds fans can expect a professional boxing event where rules will be followed at the South Pacific Boxing Promotion event next weekend in Nadi.

There will be a total of nine bouts in the program.

The main bout will see Savenaca Naliva taking on Joseph Kwadjo and the pair will be fighting for the vacant light heavyweight title at Prince Charles Park in Nadi next Saturday.
