Boxing Fiji dissolved

July 6, 2012 5:03 am

Boxing Fiji has lost its hold on amateur boxing.

Failure to adhere to the promulgation of the Boxing Commission of Fiji, chairman John Rabuku says it’s time for them to take over.

“So far, the previous board has not done the previous set up. The new board has now come to formerly dissolve Boxing Fiji Association and to take over the appointment of the new office bearers for the Amateur Boxing Association of Fiji who then will be tasked with the duty to administer and run Amateur boxing.”

Not a single amateur fight has been staged for more than six months.

While, the step taken by Boxing Fiji can happen unopposed, the International Amateur Boxing Association, only recognises Boxing Fiji.

Rabuku says without IABA recognition amatuer boxers will not be able to fight anywhere outside of the country not even in Oceania events but the Commission has applied to IABA for recognition.
