Boxers prepare for PG trials

April 15, 2015 4:58 am

Friday night will be an important one for local amateur boxers as they look to claim a spot in the national side to the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea in July.

Fiji Amateur Boxing Association President Manasa Baravilala says a trial will be held to select a national squad for the regional games in Port Moresby.

“Currently Team Fiji has 7 spots reserved for boxing to the Pacific Games. But the final selection will be dependent on the boxers that we select, so it may not mean that we will take the whole 7s; there is a selection criteria in place.”

The boxing trials will be held at the National Fitness Centre in Nasese on Friday from 5pm.

FABA is expecting at least 15 bouts in the trials and a judging panel will go over the results and performance of the boxers before submitting a final team list to FASANOC the following day.
