Battle heating up at IDC

The last round of premier grade pool games at the Courts Inter District Championships starts in the next hour with only Ba confirmed a place in the semi-finals.

The battle for the three remaining spots will see seven teams fight it out under the scorching heat at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Ba will be the most relaxed team as they are assured a place in the last four, but Coach Ronil Kumar, says he will not let this play on the minds of his players in the clash against Dreketi.

“The eleven that is playing and those on the bench are equally good. But I do not want to break any momentum so I will keep the same team we have been playing but in the second half, I will try and send a few new players.”

Dreketi’s technical advisor, Ronil Lal, says his team will need to plays its cards right.

“Again we need to work hard like yesterday, where the boys came out firing. So again Ba will be a much tougher opponent and I believe extra work is needed and if we win the midfield then we can progress.”

Labasa and Rewa also meet in a decider in Pool B. Labasa needs a win, whereas a draw for Rewa will see the side advance with Ba.

In other matches, Suva meets Tavua at 2pm and win for either team will result in them qualifying for the semi-final. From Pool A.

Tavua technical advisor, Anand Sami, says it will be a big battle for both teams.

“It is a crucial match because Suva is in the run too and we are in the run too. And we shall see what happens. We are not taking chance and we want to go out play and win.”

The last match of the day sees Lautoka battling Nadi, whereby the hosts only need a draw, while the Jetsetters need an impressive win to stand a chance.

In the senior grade, Nadroga has beaten Savusavu 1-0. However, despite the loss, Savusavu has joined Nadroga in the last four.

This has already eliminated Rakiraki defeated Lami in their pool match, 2-1, which sees Savusavu make the last four.

The other two teams will be known after the last round of matches this afternoon.

Navua is currently playing Seaqaqa, while Tailevu Naitasiri is taking on Nadogo.
