Banuve sets new record in 200m

Fiji’s sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro has set a new Pacific Games record in the 200 metres athletics event.

This as he took out gold in Papua New Guinea last night, clocking 20.53 seconds.

The old record was at 21.18 sec.

This was his second gold at the games after having earlier won the 100m.

Also last night Tabakaucoro and the men’s 4X400m team win silver and so did the women’s relay team.

Rajendra Prasad also added another gold to Fiji’s tally after winning the men’s high jump. He managed a jump of 2.03 metres.

Edward Kalouniviti won bronze in the same event.

In the women’s 200m, Younis Bese was second and Sisila Sevula third, while Toea Wisil from PNG won gold.

In boxing, Tiua Ruata and Winston Hill are through to the finals today.

Looking at the medal tally, Fiji is still fourth with 29 gold, 37 silver and 28 bronze medals.

PNG looks all set to win the games, with the nation on top with 63 gold, 49 silver and 47 bronze.

New Caledonia is second on 51 gold, 48 silver and 43 bronze, while Tahiti has 31 gold, 25 silver and 28 bronze.
