Fiji Airways 7’s team coach, Gareth Baber, has stressed to his players to maintain their discipline in the Dubai 7s which kicks off tonight.
Baber says they did well in the Oceania Cup last month and they need to maintain that standard.
“The way we played in the Oceania 7’s we didn’t get any yellow card and we don’t get much pressure room World seven series and I’m liking the tactical we making and that contributes to amount of the fitness level we have.”
Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7’s team has failed to qualify for the Dubai 7’s cup quarter-final after losing its third pool match against Canada 31-14.
This is regarded as one of their worst performances in the world Sevens series as they failed to secure a win in any of their pool matches.
In the match against Canda, Fiji’s Liusa Tisolo scored their first try which Canada led 12-7 at half time.
Ana Maria Naimasi scored their second try but it wasn’t enough to match a strong Canadian side as they came out firing, scoring three more tries in the second spell.
Meanwhile, Fiji lost their second pool match against Spain 19-5.
Fiji’s lone try came from Priscilla Siata in the second half of the match.
Spain led 12-0 at half time.
The Iliesa Tanivula-coached side were earlier defeated by Ireland 20-12 in their first pool match.
Timaima Ravisa scored both tries for Fiji with Ireland scoring four to notch the surprise victory.
Meanwhile, the Fiji men’s 7’s team kicks off its Dubai 7s campaign against Russia tonight at 7.06pm; they then play Wales at 10.06pm and face Australia tomorrow at 4.06am.
The final will be played on Sunday at 4.33am.
