Baber praises Tuwai for his leadership

November 28, 2018 4:07 pm

Fiji Airways men’s 7s coach Gareth Baber says half-back Jerry Tuwai has done an extremely good job while leading the side in the World Rugby Series last season.

He adds the reason for the change in the captaincy is that, he wants to see Tuwai play with full freedom and to his level best.

He says apart from Kalione Nasoko, there is other players who can also lead the national team on a given day.

“He plays with the freedom and I want him to play with that freedom and when he is doing that he is at his best. During the period Jerry was captain I was able to develop two or three other leaders in the likes of Kalione Nasoko, Paula Dranisinukula, and Vatemo Ravouvou. So coming into this season in better position in terms of the leadership I thought with the behaviors of Nasoko and Dranisinukula they now understand the values of the group.”

Fiji is pooled with Kenya, Scotland and France in the Dubai 7s which kicks off this weekend.

They open their campaign against France on Friday at 7.06pm, followed by Scotland at 10.06pm and Kenya at 4.06am on Saturday.

You can watch the entire tournament live on FBC TV.
