Fiji 7s Head Coach Gareth Baber is pleased with how Napolioni Ratu has progressed in the past 12 months.

Ratu is one of the players Baber identified when he took over from Ben Ryan as the national coach.

Baber says Ratu is still developing and he has a great future.

‘Around this time last year I saw him in a local tournament you know he still got a lot of development to continue but he’s also shown certainly in the tournaments he has played in most notably towards the end of last season when we were in Paris when he played in that final I think he was crowned man of the match in that one as well he’s got real qualities obviously for him as a young man probably finding his feet in international rugby’.

Baber also has big plans for rookie forward Kavekini Tabu.

When asked whether he will use Kavekini in the back-line just like his elder brother Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Baber says he will let the youngster settle in first, but does not rule out the possibility of shifting him to the backs at times.

Fiji will play Japan at 4:02 am on Friday in its first Dubai 7s pool match before meeting Argentina at 10:04 pm also on Friday.

The final pool match will be against France at 4:02 am on Saturday.
