Baber expects to name a strong side for Paris tournament

June 8, 2018 12:02 am

Fiji Airways men’s 7s forward Mesulame Kunavula, winger Alasio Naduva and Samisoni Viriviri are set to be included in the 13-member team for the Paris tournament. Starting tomorrow in France.

Coach Gareth Baber, says these players will bring a different style of rugby to the team and hinting that those who missed the London 7s have a high chance of being included in the team.

“Apenisa {Cakaubalavu} has developed well and he is playing well too. Obviously Mesulame {Kunavula} is had got a lot of experience in the sevens environment. Samisoni {Viriviri} is a rover, something that I introduced in Hong Kong to ensure that we have that position locked up. Alasio {Naduva} is someone who has been exceptional for us all season. I made my decision based on if I need to go against them in that tournament and I will do something similar this weekend. You can bet that two or three of names will be in the team.”

The Fiji 7s side is pooled with New Zealand, Kenya and Samoa for the Paris tournament.

They play Samoa in their first pool match at 8.50pm tomorrow and then face Kenya at 11.46pm. Fiji plays its final pool match against New Zealand at 5.14am on Sunday.

The cup quarter-final kicks off at 8.13pm, semi-finals will be at 12.03am on Monday and the final is scheduled for 4.54am.

You can watch the tournament live on FBC TV and catch the commentaries of Fiji’s games on Radio Fiji One.
