Australia to assist Fijian athletes for major International events

Under growing sports linkages work, Australia is going to establish an elite sports training initiative to assist selected Fiji athletes to prepare in Australia for major international events.

This was revealed by the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Marise Payne.

Payne is currently in the country and she made the comment during a Fijian Press Club Lunch yesterday.

She says that Australia want to see the nationwide elation at the Fiji Sevens’ gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics repeated across sports and across communities.

She adds that she is looking forward to the Rugby League Pacific Test Invitational matches in Sydney later this month, where the Fiji Bati will take on Lebanon and the Bulikula will make their international debut against Papua New Guinea.

She also thanked the National Rugby League in Australia for allowing the first ever Rugby League Prime Minister’s XIII men’s and women’s matches to be played in Suva later this year.

Payne also congratulated the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s Team for its series win and Paris win over the weekend.
