Seven athletes qualify so far for Team Fiji

With only one trial left to go, only seven athletes have qualified for the Pacific Games, which is a concern for Athletic Fiji.

Technical advisor Albert Miller while labelling the qualifying standards for some athletics event unrealistic, has called for its review.

Miller says most athletes are still in doubt for Pacific Games as they haven’t met the A-standard qualifications.

“We need to be more realistic in our qualifying standards. You can’t set a qualifying standard either being the South Pacific Games record or closer to that record when you know your best athlete is jumping 5 to 10 centimetres below. These are the things that we need to closely scrutinize.”

Athletics will have its final trials in Lautoka next week.
