With the Coca Cola Games set for April 22nd to the 24th former athlete and current 800m record holder Sireli Naikelekelevesi believes now is the time for coaches to work together.

The middle distance champion says the sport of athletics is bigger than everyone involved and it’s about time officials put their heads together to help the sport grow.

He says while the Coke Games brings out a competitive spirit amongst schools and athletes, it should also be a platform for molding future stars.

“Every coaches have their own specialization so if they help each other and share each other’s knowledge the standard of the athletes will just increase instead of competing with each other. The main focus of the Coca Cola Game is winning but for the standard of athletics to rise in Fiji, it’s a matter of people working with one another and helping each other.”

He says the sport of athletics is about discipline and hard work but it also takes the right training and mentor to take it to greater heights.

The South Pacific Games 800m record holder adds he will be helping athletes prepare for the Coca Cola Games.
