Coca-cola torch relay will travel to Lau

February 22, 2019 12:02 pm

The Coca-Cola torch relay will be traveling to the Lau Group for the first time this year.

Fiji Secondary School Athletes Association Secretary Vuli Waqa says this is a good opportunity for school students in Lau who are not able to come and watch the Coke Games in Suva to get the feel of it when the relay team graces their shores.

The torch will be going as far as Lakeba and Moce in the Lau Group.

“Most of them that would be there only chance for them to be part of the Coke Games. In some cases, people do come up and touch the torch and if they couldn’t come down to the Coke Games they’d be able to say that they did touch the torch. To them touching the torch is their part of the Coke Games even though they may not be down for the three-day competition.”

75 schools will be participating in this year’s torch relay compared to 80 schools last year.

The torch will be traveling around the country for 25 days before arriving for the opening ceremony of the Coca-Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The Fiji finals will be held on the 16th to the 18th of April.
