Athletics Fiji hopes for more wild card entries

Athletics Fiji has requested for an increase in the number of Wild Card entries for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April.

This is after they were allocated five spots was allocated to Team Fiji by the Commonwealth Games organizers.

Athletics Fiji Chief Development Officer Joseph Rodan Junior says they are looking at a quota of nine athletes to take to the games.

“We have a quota of nine athletes and we have given the chance to the rest of the athletes out there who went to the Pacific Mini Games and we’ve given everybody a time frame on the 24th of February.”

Meanwhile, Athletics Fiji is prioritizing five gold medalists at the recent Pacific Mini Games to compete at the Games.

These are 1,500m runner Petero Veitaqomaki, 100m sprinter Aaron Powell, high jumper Sireli Bulivorovoro and Shwantell Lokington and 440m runner Miriama Senokonoko.

The Commonwealth Games will run through the 4th to the 15th of April in Gold Coast Australia.
