Team Fiji Executives will ensure that all athletes and officials pass their medical screenings before traveling to the Pacific Games in Samoa in July.

Chef de Mission Patrick Bower says this was previously an issue as athletes would travel to the games with unknown injuries.

Bower says they will strictly monitor that all athletes are injury free to be part of the traveling squad to Samoa.

“We’ve had in the past where athletes went with injuries to the games and as a result not performed well.”

FASANOC Medical Commission Sharlene Nand says the medical screening will include height, weight, blood tests.

“We don’t want to rule out any athlete or official traveling to any game. We want to help and support them in order for them to be well prepared in terms of any medical wellness even mental health to compete at the games.”

Team Fiji will hold its first medical screenings at the Pasifika Campus in FNU on Saturday from 8.30 to 5pm.
