Iosefo Rakesa gave all his very best at the finals of the Men’s Shotput event final of the 2019 Dubai World Para Athletics Championship yesterday.

Rakesa whose throw of 9.82m earned himself 7th place, faced stiff competition from seven other contestants, most of whom had previous high level exposure in major Paralympic events globally.

Team Fiji Coach Albert Miller who was calling out instructions and encouraging his athlete from the sideline said that ”Rakesa was certainly not in form yesterday.

Miller believed that Rakesa would have easily equaled his previous personal best throw of 10.65m, but such are the challenges in any competition that we just need to be on our level best to be able to match the stiff competition in such a highly competitive sporting event of international caliber.

Coach Miller is looking forward to Rakesa’s next and final event in the Javelin category tomorrow and is further proud of the fact that both Para-athletes Iosefa Rakesa and Inosi Matea had created history for Fiji as the first two athletes to qualify on merit for the World Para Games and the 2020 Paralympics.

Inosi Matea who competed in the Javelin F63 event on Saturday has returned home.
