14-men Nadroga retain Farebrother Trophy

A 14-men Nadroga rugby side defeated Namosi 10-8 to retain the HFC Bank Farebrother Trophy challenge at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Nadroga flyhalf, Alifereti Veitokani kicked a penalty in the first spell to see the Stallions lead 3-0 at halftime.

Winger, Maikeli Toga scored the opening try in the 43rd minute for the hosts and was successfully converted by Veitokani for Nadroga to extend their lead to 10-0.

Namosi replied almost immediately with a try to Aporosa Gavidi to trail Nadroga 10-5 before flyhalf, Semesa Takirua added a penalty goal.

In the 66th minute, Nadroga’s Josefa Nahalo was red-carded for eye-gouging Namosi captain, Risiate Tadulala.

Namosi tried to make use of the numerical advantage but Nadroga held on to retain the Farebrother Trophy.

Nadroga will defend the coveted title for the 8th and final challenge of the year next weekend against Lautoka.
