Youth activist delighted with declaration

Komal Narayan, a Fijian climate activist with the Alliance for Future Generations says this is a great step in empowering young people.

The actions of the Fijian government to involve more youth in its climate change decision making has been welcomed by activists.

Fiji is amongst a handful of nations that have signed an Intergovernmental Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action.

This new declaration sees nations commit to accelerating inclusive child-responsive climate action as part of their nationally determined contributions.

Included in this are measures to enhance youth participation in decision-making.

Komal Narayan, a Fijian climate activist with the Alliance for Future Generations says this is a great step in empowering young people.

“I think this new declaration gives me a lot of hope as well. Not just for me but for our Pacific youths back at home as well, knowing that Fiji is one of the countries that has signed this declaration where they will be giving youths 50 percent opportunities to be engaged with leaders not just at home but on the intentional platform as well.”

COP 25 continues in Madrid this week, ending on Friday.
