Young Fijians will participate for the first time at the National Model United Nations Conference in Washington DC.
Minister for Youth and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou made this comment at the induction and pinning of the first-ever collegiate-level Model United Nations team at FNU Natabua Campus in Lautoka.
Tuitubou says the team is comprised entirely of women, who will compete in an academic competition simulating real-life United Nations conference this November.
The minister said the journey will prepare participants to become future advocates and succeed in leadership roles.
He says although the task is to simulate international diplomats in this mock competition, the journey to doing so will equip them with the skills and tools to prepare for a future of active service to humanity.
The team will be sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Fiji National University.
