Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism Development are some of the topics that will be discussed during the 30th Joint Commissions Meeting of the World Tourism Organization.
Speaking during the opening, Minister for Tourism, Faiyaz Koya says hosting the meeting in the Pacific for the first time is crucial for the region.
Koya says this meeting will also be an advantage for Fiji, as we can showcase what our tourism has to offer.
“As policy-makers we have to ensure that tourism development is sustainable and its benefits are shared amongst all stakeholders in the industry, especially the local communities.”
Some countries that are attending the three day meeting include Sri Lanka, Tuvalu, Indonesia, Australia, and Papua New Guinea.
