Election Officials from the region have gathered in Nadi to discuss current democratic processes and institutions in the Pacific.
The participants are expected to assess concepts that are emerging in the Pacific, to develop a picture for democracy in the future.
The two day workshop is organized by International IDEA and the Varieties of Democracy Institute.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says elections in the Pacific are posing numerous challenges that the Election Management Bodies have to deal with.
“I invite International IDEA to study the Pacific and to publish materials to assist other persons or organizations to understand the context better. The more on the ground reality is reported in studies, the greater understanding the world will have about the Pacific.”
International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization that supports sustainable democracy worldwide.
