July 23, 2012 10:11 pm

The Fiji Police Force is calling on the public to work within the boundaries of the law to ensure smooth transition towards the 2014 elections.

Police Commissioner Brigadier Ioane Naivalurua made the statement as the government has suspended section 8 of the Public order Act by the Fiji Constitutional Process Decree.

The Decree permits persons or groups to have meetings without a permit.

However persons and groups holding meetings, are not permitted to engage in any act that constitutes an offence under the Public Order Act.

Naivalurua hopes that persons and groups will not take undue and unfair advantage of the positive changes that have been made to the laws.

He says the Fiji Police Force is here to facilitate government’s intentions to ensure that all Fijians continue to operate peacefully in accordance with the law.
