Work on new Suva Remand Centre begins

Work on the new Suva Remand Centre has now begun.

Fiji Corrections Service – Spokesperson – Ana Tamani says the new centre is expected to ease the overcrowding problems in the correction centres.

Tamani says the $11.6m project will house 200 remand inmates upon completion.

She says this is a timely effort by the government since an increase has been noted in the number of inmates on remand.

The project is expected to be completed in eight months.
