February 2, 2018 7:39 pm

Five sewing machines and laptops were handed to the women groups of Tikina Lovoni in Ovalau by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa yesterday.

Along with this, Vuniwaqa and her delegation also handed over some reading materials to the school and stationeries to students in the area, which were provided to the ministry by donors from Australia.

Vuniwaqa says the donation to the women’s groups will help equip women with the skills and knowledge for economic independence and entrepreneurial empowerment.

She adds that the positive support of men in their lives and the Vanua was critical if women were to realize their full potential.

President of the Nasaga Women’s Group, Fane Koyanasau says they usually come to Levuka Town to compile their group’s monthly report and the laptop they received from the Ministry will assist them in compiling reports and other business matters for the women’s group without having to travel far.

A ‘Talanoa Session’ was held with the men and women of the 3 villages in Lovoni and the Nasaga Women’s Group after the official handing over of the income generating projects, whereby Government assistance programs towards families and communities were discussed.
