Women’s economic empowerment program to alleviate poverty

The Government supports programs that empower women through entrepreneurship development, financial education and access.

Minister for Women and Children, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says that women have broken barriers that limit women’s economic participation.

While officiating at the South Pacific Business Development Fiji Businesswoman of the Year Awards in Lautoka – Vuniwaqa says it was a grand achievement and the award program has scaled new heights over the past eight years.

She says SPBD has over the years remained true to their mission of providing underprivileged families with meaningful economic opportunity.

The Minister says empowering women needs to be more than economics and requires changing the power dynamics and other cultural factors that repress women.

She also encouraged women and men to do their part in eliminating discrimination, violence and mistreatment against women.
