The women of Kioa Island are requesting for government’s help in securing a market for their handicraft products.

Kioa Island Women’s Association President Luisa Lavati says craft making is the main source of income for the women on the Island and they often find it hard to sell their products.

Lavati says at present, the women are selling their products to nearby hotels and resorts.

Once a month, cruise ships visit Kennedy Bay and this is where they also sell their crafts.

Sometimes the women take their craft to the Savusavu market to sell.

The women make baskets, trays, jewelry, mats and cups from pandanus leaves, coconut leaves and coconut shells.

There are 82 women who are members of the Association.
