A 27-year-old woman is in police custody after she unlawfully smuggled a mobile phone to a serving inmate on Thursday.

It is alleged that during visiting hours at the Korovou Correction facility, the woman unlawfully handed the phone to the prisoner under the table.

An officer at the facility confronted the woman and arrested her.

She has been charged with one count of unlawful entry of prohibited articles.

The woman will be appearing in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.
