A 25-year-old woman died after she was hit by a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old man who was allegedly under the influence of liquor.

Police say the alleged incident occurred along Vesida Road after 8 last night.

The victim was conveyed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have confirmed that the suspect remains in custody at the Valelevu Police Station.

The road death toll currently stands at 32 compared 47.
