The Health Minister’s presentation is being described by some in attendance as unrelenting passion, frankness and expertise which is exactly how top health ministers win support at the WHA.

“I stand on behalf of the Small Island Developing States, I stand on behalf of the Africans and Caribbeans and I call to all the donors, WHO, all the supporters and I say support safe surgery because surgeries are in the middle of it all and without safe surgery, there’s you know, no universal health coverage.”

It’s estimated that around five billion people across the globe do not have access to health care services.
