WHO offers technical support to Fiji flood response

The World Health Organization has offered technical support to the Ministry of Health following the widespread flooding in the western division.

The assistance includes working with the government in identifying major health risks and sector priorities, development of immediate sector response strategy and strengthening of surveillance and disease early warning system.

WHO will also assist in developing public messages on food safety in evacuation centers, enhanced surveillance for leptospirosis and typhoid fever.

WHO has activated its Event Management Group to coordinate the response to the flooding in Fiji.

The Event Management Group, representing the Country Office in Fiji and its Western Pacific Regional Office based in Manila, has been closely monitoring the evolving situation.

Around 150,000 people have been affected by the recent floods which claimed 5 lives.
