The wet weather currently being experienced by Fijians over the past few days is expected to clear later this week.

Fiji Metrological Services Director, Misaele Funaki says that the trough of low pressure affecting the country will clear out in the next few days.

However, Funaki says certain parts of the country may still experience heavy rain.

“the clearing bit will eventually come later in the week so what we should look forward to right now is that rain will gradually ease but with that stated there will still be pockets of isolated heavy falls mainly in the Eastern parts of the group, Lau and the Lomaiviti group.”

He says that significant heavy rainfall was also recorded for most parts of the group in the past few days.

According to Funaki, Udu Point in Vanua Levu recorded 270mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

He adds that with the ground already saturated any small amount of rain can always lead to flooding.
