West agricultural condition improves

October 28, 2014 1:00 am

Rain over the past week has brought some relief to farmers in the western division.

Acting Agricultural Officer West Viliame Mainawalala says farmers had stopped cultivating their land due to the dry spell of weather.

“Even though we have received substantial rainfall in the last two weeks, conditions continue to be dry. And we are hoping that we are going into this rainy season, we are hoping more rain so that farmers will be able to cultivate the land that are idle right now which needs to be cultivated.”

Mainawalala says grass has started to grow and livestock health has improved.

However, farmers who need water for livestock and water purification units have been urged to contact the West Agriculture Office.
