Weleilakeba gives evidence in Qarase case

July 5, 2012 5:16 am

Former Fijian Holdings Limited board secretary and CEO Sitiveni Weleilakeba told the Suva High Court this afternoon that each FHL director has a duty to declare his or her interest in any matter that is to be discussed during the board meeting.

He is a state witness in the trial of former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase.

Weleilakeba explained that the interest needs to be declared because he or she would be a direct beneficiary to the issue that will be discussed.

He also told the court that he had expected the person who had vested interest in any of the issues to declare his interest.

However in his tenure as board secretary and later CEO, he never came across any declaration of any vested interest by any director or chairman.

The trial continues tomorrow.
