Weleilakeba explains role in FHL

Former Fijian Holdings Limited secretary and CEO Sitiveni Weleilakeba told the Suva High Court that his role in FHL as secretary to the board is to compile the minutes of all board meetings.

Weleilakeba is one of the 10 state witnesses in the case against former FHL Director Laisenia Qarase charged with nine counts of abuse of office and discharge of duty.

He informed the Court that the minutes of the board meeting is a unanimous decision of all Directors.

The agenda of the meeting will have to be distributed to the Directors seven days before the next board meeting.

However he told the Court that during his 25 years at FHL – he never recorded any of the Directors disagreeing on any of the minutes of the meeting.

He says if there was a dispute – it would be entirely up to the specific Director to request the chair whether to record the disagreement on the minutes of the meeting.

Weleilakeba is the second state witness in the three week trial.
