The Lautoka City Council says it will weed out illegal fish vendors from the City boundaries to ensure the interests of its market vendors are upheld.
A video has gone viral on social media websites showing City rangers confiscating fish from illegal vendors.
Council CEO Jone Nakauvadra says City ranger will continue with their operation to curb the growing problem.
“They have been warned several times, its about one month now that the rangers have been issuing warnings but they continue to do that. It has become a problem for us because the fish vendors in the market and the wharf are complaining about customers not coming”.
Nakauvadra the confiscated fish are kept in their cooler in the market waiting for the fishermen to claim it.
A fee will be charged in this regard.
The City Council is encouraging the illegal vendors to do the right thing and sell from the provided facilities at the Lautoka Fisherman’s wharf and the market.
