We will die for our Catholic educational values: Archbishop

January 21, 2019 8:11 am

Upholding our Catholic educational values is something that we live for and we will die for says Archbishop Peter Loy Chong.

Sending out a strong message during a forum held in Suva, the Head of the Catholic Church maintains they will continue to push the government to meet their demand – to have its own church members as head of their schools.

Archbishop Loy Chong says he is standing by his demand to the education ministry following threats they will close all their catholic based schools including 44 primary schools and 19 secondary schools.

“This is something that we will not allow to be dictated by some people, we will live for this, and we will die for it and will hold on to this as our mission.”

The Archbishop says this will only happen if the government fails to resolve the concerns of the church.

FBC News is still awaiting comments from the education ministry regarding the issue, however the Archbishop says they will continue to fight for what is best for the church.

_“Bishops needs to support and enhance the work of catholic schools, the bishop must see to it that education in his schools is based on the principles of catholic doctrine.”_

More dialogue is expected in the coming days between the Catholic Church and the Education Ministry.
