The Ministry of Employment protects the interest of both workers and employers.

This was highlighted by Minister Jone Usamate while holding public consultation in Levuka.

Usamate clarified the issue of workers leaving their place of employment without giving notice of resignation and also on the view by some employers that the ministry favours the interest of workers only.

He adds the importance of having employment contracts in place is due to such circumstances – in protecting both the employer and the employee as it regulates the behaviour of the employee in the workplace.

The Minister urged employers and workers to engage in good faith dialogue in resolving their disputes.

He also states that the law gives power to the employer on the termination of a worker.
