We heard the lady scream for help: eyewitnesses

Two eyewitnesses who saw a man allegedly stab a woman in Samabula, Suva say the woman screamed for help.

50-year-old retired police officer Serupepeli Lailai told FBC News that he heard a woman scream for help after 7pm.

Lailai said he rushed to the scene with his wife and saw a man stabbing a woman.

He stated that some people who were nearby also tried to stop the man from stabbing the lady and he tried to attack them as well.

He stated that a neighbour threw a padlock at the man, who later fled the scene.

His wife, Resina Lailai said that the woman was spitting blood and had stab wounds.

The 46-year-old then helped the lady and took her to the hospital.

Police are still at the scene.

Meanwhile, police are yet to reveal details of the incident.
