The Eastern Mini Bus Association which services the Suva-Nausori route admits that mini-bus drivers have been charging more since the taxi flag fall increased to two dollars a few years ago.
President Naresh Chand claims there have been no increases in minibus fares in the last 19 years.
“We have already given our submission to LTA regarding the fare increase but they still working on it. That’s what they have said because I think at this point in time we deserve $2 because since the year 2000 when minibus legalized since than till today there has been no increase in the fare .”
Chand reveals that the LTA regulated minibus fares of $1.50 for the Suva- Nausori corridor.
“They have got a fare given, how much we have to charge to a passenger and this fare is for 24/7, there is no night, no day fare. It’s just like $1.50. I am talking about Suva Nausori corridor so in that regards we have to charge only $1.50. That’s the regulated fare.”
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Jone Usamate says the Land Transport Authority is reviewing the regulation.
