Thirteen percent of Fiji’s population have some form of disability.
Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Josefa Koroivueta revealed the statistics while speaking at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Koroivueta says his Ministry is committed to ensuring inclusion and equality for persons with disabilities.
“We have spiritual disabilities as well and within this landscape we have to tackle it in a very carefully considered manner to ensure there is equality and to ensure there is inclusiveness.”
Koroivueta says the National Council for Persons with Disabilities will ensure opportunities for employment and advancement for people living with disability are not discriminated.
