Water Supervisor acquitted

A former Water Supervisor for Nadroga and Navosa charged with false pretence and abuse of office was acquitted by the Sigatoka Magistrates court yesterday.

Pio Sekitoga has been suspended without pay since 2009.

FICAC had alleged that on January 2, 2008 Sekitoga signed a cheque of $2,450 to be paid to Road works safety and civil Products.

However they claim that the products were not delivered to Water department on November 2007.

On another occasion he was alleged to have acknowledged the receipt of the products on February 2008 however the items were not delivered.

In handing down the judgement Magistrate Chaitanya Lakshman said from evidence of the prosecution witnesses that two of the state witnesses failed to perform their duty and blamed Sekitoga.

Mgistrate Lakshman said the accused did not make false pretence or abuse the authority of his office.

FICAC has been given 28 days to appeal the judgement.
