July 15, 2014 7:10 pm

Water supply along the Nadi/ Lautoka corridor is at a critical stage according to Water Authority boss Opetaia Ravai.

Ravai says there is massive growth in the area – not just in terms of people but new investments as well.

The current piping network in Nadi, isn’t ready to handle the increased demand.

“There’s huge development plans. Talking to the agencies, Housing Authority, Town and Country Planning, the tourism industry – If we don’t fix the current system in Nadi and put in some very key upgrades, we’ll really be struggling in the next 3 years.”

Ravai adds the entire Nadi-Lautoka corridor is key focus area right now, so that existing water supply problems don’t become worse.

Areas such as Nawaicoba in Nadi and a few other settlements are still receiving intermittent supply.

Ravai says this is because their system is struggling to keep up with demand for water and poor planning when the pipes were laid.

The Water Authority has a 20 year master plan which outlines all the entire scope of work needed around Fiji.
