Water committees set up in rural communities

February 19, 2018 4:49 am

The Water Authority is in the process of setting up Water Committees in remote rural areas which have been recently connected to a steady water supply.

General Manager Special Projects, Taitusi Vakadravuyaca says the Committees are set up to take full ownership of the scheme.

Vakadravuyaca says these will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and the daily wear and tear of the project.

“The asset is not the sort of accounted for under the Water Authority of Fiji. As soon as the project has completed the hand over the process to the Water Committee is done. However, that doesn’t mean that WAF isn’t responsible for a disaster.”

Vakadravuyaca says the water committees will be established before the project is implemented before they undergo a training session to carry out their roles respectively.

The selected Committees and the Water Authority will have monthly meetings to address any major issues.
