Water Authority gives amnesty

The Water Authority of Fiji has given consumers until August 14th to have their water meter’s registered.

The move follows reports that some of consumers are illegally connected to the Authority’s water and sewerage reticulation system.

WAF spokesperson Maika Nagalu says such act is a crime under the Water Authority of Fiji’s promulgation 2007.

Nagalu says the amnesty period is to allow consumers who are illegally connected to get registered and regularize their status during the period.

WAF has warned consumers who are currently accessing water from a meter however not receiving any bills to also register their status during this period.

Those who do not meet the deadline will face a minimum fine of $1,000 and up to a maximum of $1m together with other associated penalties.
